As part of Miss Universe's environmental efforts, Diamond Nexus Labs was chosen to be the official sponsor for the crowns since 2009. Diamond Nexus Labs specializes in diamond simulants and other synthetic stones, offering them at a fraction of the cost of real mined stones. The current crown "Peace" was chosen by thousands of online voters in Diamond Nexus Labs' Choose the Crown website.
For the years 2002-2007, Miss Universe used the famous Mikimoto crown depicting the phoenix rising, signifying status, power, and beauty.
The crown was designed to reflect the ones of modern monarchs, with rubies to symbolize Miss Universe's AIDS awareness campaign.

I honestly prefer the Mikimoto crown, it has the same grace and elegance of a Miss Universe.
